ATR Questionnaires and iGuard Risk Mapping
ATR Profilers
The following attitude to risk questionnaires are provided by a third party company based in the UK, with extensive experience of risk rating individual clients. The questionnaire is designed to predict with a high degree of certainty (95%) the level of risk that an investor is willing to take when investing their money. The questions are scientifically derived to give a fair and representative measure and place you in one of ten risk profiles.
Your client’s overall attitude to risk is based on a number of elements including:
Their tolerance for risk which is rated by looking at their attitude to risk and the expectations they have for investment returns.
Their capacity for risk which is based on their current financial situation and the time frame over which they want to invest.
In addition, it is highly likely that their knowledge and experience of investing will impact their risk profile.
You should select one of the following ATR questionnaires depending on the location of your client and where you are providing the advice from.
Simplified ATR Questionnaires
These questionnaires will access your client’s attitude to risk based on the following elements:
- tolerance for risk
- capacity for risk
- ATR – UK (Including Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands), Western Europe (Including Switzerland), U.A.E, and Australasia
- ATR – US and Canada
- ATR – Hong Kong and Mainland China
Advanced ATR Questionnaires
In addition to accessing your client’s attitude tolerance for risk and capacity for risk this questionnaire also includes questions to evaluate your client’s Knowledge and Experience of financial instruments. Whilst the client’s overall risk score will not be affected by the Knowledge and Experience score this will provide you with further insight allowing you to assess whether your client is in the correct risk profile.
- ATR – UK (Including Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands), Western Europe (Including Switzerland), U.A.E, and Australasia
- ATR – US and Canada
- ATR – Hong Kong and Mainland China
N.B. for Hong Kong and Mainland China the K&E score must be taken into account in assessing which risk profile is suitable for your client. For all other locations this is not obligatory.
